Extensively researced places in Houston for cut/color & decided to wait it out to get it done at "Touch of Red" with Sami. Was open to changing from black to platinum blonde since I'm 90% gray/white. Had no expectations. What occurred was pure brilliance...... that years of experience don't even equate to but pure raw talent does. The haircut was the best I've ever had, even topping one that I'd had done best in "London" by a senior stylist 10 years ago. I've been coloring my hair for 20 years now. I didn't go platiunum per recommendation but what Sami did change my color to was pure genius and I love it!! I feel fortunate to have found someone as passionate as Sami is at her craft. Thanks Sami!!!
OMG can you say terrible experience? My sis is local and got appointments here for me and our mom the day before her wedding. She is a bit of a control freak and so we just said we'd do whatever she wants - including, in my case, growing out my roots for 5 months. So this lady Sammi first reschedules us to the afternoon from the morning at the last minute, then when we are a few minutes late to the reschedule, immediately launches into us for being rude for being late (never mind that we are being driven everywhere on someone else's schedule, or that she rescheduled 45 minutes before our original appointment!) I have super-long hair, so it takes a while. She asked what I wanted, and I said that it's my sister's decision, who described a color and trim. During the prep process, she chatted as hairdressers do. When I told her what I do, she said how "useless" and "stupid" people in my profession are, and how much "normal people are way smarter than people like you who waste time in school and stuff." I would have walked out but my hair was full of gunk. She also asked why my hair was the way it was (I hadn't dyed it in 5 months per my sister's wishes, as I tried to explain). She said, "Thank God your sister brought you in here, because your look isn't working for ANYBODY." My mom and I stopped trying to talk to her after that, but she didn't stop talking to us - nor to everyone else in the shop, random people popping in, people she called on her cell phone... My mom and I were the only ones she was a raging witch to, though. On top of that, she dyed part of my face black along with the hair. Not just along the roots, but glops on my forehead, temples, and my neck underneath my hair. The wedding makeup girls had to cover me with foundation. While I was trying to rinse my face off, she began chatting about our soon-to-be in-laws. They are local as well, and she's met them all several times. This was our first time meeting them (we'd met the groom once before, briefly). We expressed surprise at some story that she told us about them going to Mexico, and then she launched into "what horrible kinds of people are you out there" (presumably California and Oklahoma) who "don't even bother to get know your in-laws," nevermind that we were all meeting for the first time. And I was blotchy-faced for it. The only relief is that eventually Sammi, who is part-owner, eventually left me in the hands of a nice Irish lady and got the heck out of my face. My mom is close to 60, and they gave her platinum blonde hair with an asymmetrical bob. Was that on purpose? I didn't know. She charged us almost $300 each for the privilege of being constantly insulted as well as having our hair whacked and faces dyed. We could not get out of there fast enough, and my mom was almost in tears (did I mention the two cutting remarks about my mom's weight, and the insult about how could my nice sister could be related to us, since she seemed so much "better?"). We barely spoke and walked out of there as soon as we could. When my sister came to get us, she had to pick us up from three blocks away, because we just couldn't get away from Sammi's poison, vitriol, and horrible personality. It took me three days to get over that, because that's how long it took my skin to slough off the dye. AVOID!!
