I won't be going back. I normally get my nail services in Annapolis, even though I live in Chesapeake Beach. Today I thought I'd patronize a local business, and the fact that I was given a gift certificate to Beauty by the Bay sealed my decision. I wanted a pedicure and a Shellac French manicure. I was taken back for the pedicure without being asked what kind I wanted. I imagined they might have different choices, but I wasn't given a menu or asked what kind i'd like. Okay--I figured maybe the only had one kind, so we started. My tech was sweet ( I think her name was Maria), but there was absolutely nothing special about the whole pedicure experience. The chair did have nice strong massage, but I was wondering if the chair had heat, and I played around with the controls, but it had so many buttons, I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't succeed in getting any heat. There was nothing wrong with the pedicure, but it was extremely basic-nothing special. I was then taken to a different tech for my nails. She originally wanted me to soak my nails in bowls of acetone, but I asked for the foil and cotton method, as I don't want to soak my fingers in the liquid acetone. It does horrific things to my nails and my skin. The tech didn't seem very familiar with the cotton/foil method, though it's very common in the 3 salons where I've been to in Annapolis. She then texted (or otherwise played with her phone) while the foils were on, and I felt uncomfortable just sitting there across from her while she did this. I'd rather she'd gotten up and left to go text so that I wasn't face-to-face with her while she ignored me and played with her phone. When she removed the foils, the old shellac wasn't ready yet, but she took some nippers and was grabbing the old polish and peeling it off, with poor results. I asked her if she would perhaps put the foils back on & give the acetone more time, which she did. From there, it didn't get a lot better. She seemed tentative and inexperienced, and during the manicure process, cut some cuticle that was still very attached to my finger, which hurt. It was shortly thereafter that I decided that I was ready to leave, so I skipped the rest and left without any shellac on my nails. At that point, I;d already been there for an hour and a half, and it was a slow and painful process in more ways than one. I also noticed as I was paying that they have more than one choice of pedicure on the menu by the register. I'd never been there before, so it would've been nice if I'd been offered choices, as I've been known to spring for the deluxe pedicures. At least I can say I tried to stay local, but there was almost nothing about that experience that I liked. I'll be giving away the remainder of my gift certificate to someone else.

Totally LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! This salon is always very accommodating and offer just about any kind of beauty service you need. They will always make you happy at the end of your apt. They totally cater to small town ethics and will make it work. They have a brand new salon with BEAUTIFUL brand new pedicure chairs and brand new sinks and chairs where you get your hair washed. I totally recommend them for anything you need. They are open everyday and will always fit you in. Make an apt you wont be disappointment.
