Phillip Michael Salon & Spa
Reviews
The good news: This place is cheap. The bad news: You get what you pay for. I got my hair, makeup, and nails done here. They were really nice about redoing the manicure because the first time they tried the bottle was old and gummy so it didn't set properly. My shampoo and style was great, exactly what I asked for. If you go here, I would definitely recommend asking for Megan. Makeup was another story: very sloppy. I didn't even know what to say when she asked me how it looked. I was horrified. The eyeliner was way below my lower lid, the eyeshadow was everywhere without much shape. My eyes were dark underneath from the sloppy eyeshadow application. I showed a picture of what I wanted and ended up looking nothing like it. I wasn't expecting to leave there looking perfect, but this was bad. She almost forgot to put foundation on my chin (she remembered when she was putting the final powder) and didn't touch my lips at all. It wasn't worth trying to get her to fix it, I obviously wasn't going to get a decent look, so I just paid, left, and took it off in the car. So much for "professional" makeup application.
The receptionist was very professional and friendly. The stylist that did my hair was very sweet. However, she totally missed the mark on the cut that I had wanted. I showed pictures and stated that I did not want the same boring bob I always end up with when I go short. Somewhere in the consult that message got lost and I ended up with the same boring old bob. I won't put all the fault on the stylist because I was anxious about getting all of my hair cut off and may not have given her the greatest instruction even though we did look at pictures and there were visual references of what I wanted. But I knew I would be anxious that day so that is why I took time on the Saturday before I went to get my hair done to go and speak to the owner about what I wanted to do and asked him to pair me with the right stylist for the job. Philip Micheal obviously never conveyed our conversation or worried about whether pairing me with a sweet new stylist would hinder my ability to fully communicate. Getting a new stylist is scary. Trying something new with a new stylist is very scary. When you have to worry about hurting their feelings it's the scariest. So it wasn't the worst experience I have ever had, my boring old cut is okay, but it wasn't the kind of experience that will bring me back in.
I've always had a really great experience with Phillip Michael! Even when I was in hurry and didn't get same stylist because I wanted to get in...Great experience. Nice and clean..great atmosphere. Nice place and nice people.
I'm usually leary of trying out a new hairstylist, I decided to get my feet wet with a shellac manicure first. If I liked it, I'd maybe get a haircut there. Mmm, yeah. The worst manicure ever. I had better ones at beauty schools (for under $10). The polish is sloppy and goopy. I wanted shallac because I'm screwed up the polish even before I walk out the salon door. However, my polish is already chipped. The manicure was definitely not worth the $35 I would have paid for it. I had a $10 off coupon, so I paid $25. As far as the service? Bad, but not as bad as the manicure. The girl at the front desk seemed insincere and didn't make me feel welcome...although she did offer me something to drink (but I mean what salon doesn't do that?). The manicurist was blah, seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. I would save your money and go to the Asian (sorry to seem all stereotypical here) nail salon a few doors down. So glad I didn't get a cut here!
Please beware when going to this salon. I walked in to get more information from the salon and the next day got my hair done...such a big mistake. I loved the atmosphere of the salon however the girl who cut and colored my hair was terrible! She was really nice however I now know she was uneducated on proper hair coloring and styling (I believe her name was Amber). I wanted a platinum blond look with a darker color underneath. I showed pictures and everything. I ended up with orangish hair with black underneath :( It was so sad! I am generally a passive person so I paid and thought maybe I just have to get use to it. Then my husband and friends saw me and told me that there is NO WAY they should have made me pay for the service. The color and style just terrible. I tried calling salon twice and left messages with receptionist for owner to please call me back. Every time I called I got the response that "Philip is a very busy with clients and will call me when he can"....well he never did. I then went to another hair salon and they took pictures of my hair three days after it was done because they wanted proof for me to show the owner of how my hair looked before they touched it. I have never intended to make a big deal out of the almost $200 I paid for my terrible haircut and style but I am planning on posting reviews wherever I can to educate people on my experience. I tell everyone to please not go to this salon...the coupons are not worth it. Worst hair experience for me ever!
