Spa Manzanita
Reviews
I have reported this spa to the Better Business Bureau because of the behavior of the employees Amber and Heather. I have also heard that regular customers refuse to go to the spa until Heather no longer works there. I'll explain both. For the report to the BBB, my husband was considering getting me spa services for the holidays. His ex-wife is Heather. She has been extremely hostile and irrational with my husband long before he and I got married last January. But we thought I could go there on a day she didn't work. I called the spa on Sunday to see when they would be open over the holidays. I was in Manzanita for Christmas in 2011, but the spa was closed. When I called, I didn't give my name. Amber answered and told me their hours and warned me their open slots were filling up quickly. The call lasted 32 seconds, and I thought the her customer service was good until a minute and a half later when the spa called me back. I let the call go to voucemail, not knowing why a spa would do that. I give my name, place of work and job title in my voicemail greeting since I use it for personal ans work purposes. Heather immediately started harassing my husband with text messages, stating my call was a prank, that she was going to get a restraining order against him, and that she wasn't going to let his son be with him for Christmas even though that's what has been ordered by the court. I couldn't believe that the spa's staff would use the company phone to harass potential customers. And I am concerned that other customers have been harassed by the staff in order to appease Heather's paranoia. I am also concerned that other staff call back potential customers to see if they are the opposite party in their own personal conflicts. I hope that the owner, Janice, puts a stop to this. As for regular customers who refuse to got there because of Heather, it is because she is maliciously slandering my husband and his parents while in the spa (and most likely me as well). My mother and father in-law are well known in the small coastal community, having been the former owners of the Lighthouse (which has great food and service, by the way). While in the spa, Heather has told customers numerous lies about us. One lies was that my father in-law was having an affair with a sixteen year-old girl. So she is saying that a 70 year-old man recently diagnosed with lymphatic cancer is committing the felony of statutory rape. A Postal worker who knows my father in-law was disgusted by this and couldn't believe that Janice and the other staff would tolerate this type of behavior in the spa. Heather has the right to say whatever lies she wants, but while in the spa she represents the company and its image. Since this behavior is allowed, it means all the other staff and the owner think that her actions are acceptable and that malicious slander of community members is an acceptable practise at the spa. And since Amber was involved in calling me back and harassing my husband, then the other staff think it's okay to harass potential customers regardless of who they are. I do not recommend this spa regardless of the quality of their massages, waxes, hair cuts, and manicures. The staff is allowed to harass customers and slander people, creating an environment that is opposite of what the spa's website proclaims. Although I had wanted to use the spa's services in 2011 and considered using them this Christmas season, I will never go to this spa even if Heather no longer works there.
Love this place! Great collection of delicious smelling products in the lobby-- featuring everything from bath salts to poo-poo spray. My masseuse was extremely knowledgeable when it came to muscle location. I mentioned to her that I was an avid kayaker, and she spent extra time working on the muscles around my neck, upper back, and shoulders. She took some time at the end of the massage to explain the muscles to me, and give me a few tips on how to keep them stretched out and loose in between spa treatments. The spa rooms are clean & quiet. Overall, an excellent experience.
I have known Janice for over 25 years and can not say enough about her knowledge and understanding of the body, its mechanics, problems and solutions through massage. She has assembled a great staff, that is diverse, customer oriented, professional and very good at what they do. The fact I will drive almost 2 hrs and have been for the last 15 years to see her, speaks for itself. If you are looking for a great place to get away, unwind and have some knots worked out, Spa Manzanita would be my recommendation.
These spa treatments are a blessing to body and soul! Great value too. The sea wrap followed by a massage was exactly what I needed for rejuvenation. Thank you Spa Manzanita!

And the place is not just for pampering. For you serious athletes looking for therapeutic deep tissue massage look no further than the owner, Janice Gaines, to handle your bodies needs. Few people know the body as well as Janice. A former world class cyclist and downhill skier who if I'm not mistaken was. on the US Olympic cycling or ski team.
