I only write reviews when I have an experience at one extreme or the other. The guys at Gillis Barber Shop are fantastic. Extremely friendly, great barbershop environment, clean facilities, and a great cut. Inexpensive but extremely well done. I was from out of town and if you are coming into KC and need a hair cut, Gillis is the place. Fantastic.

It is a great, no-frill barbershop. I received a wonderful haircut and shave from John and Vince.

These guys are great. It's a little expensive for a simple haircut. I can go elsewhere and get a similar cut for half the price, but they shave around the ears, sideburns and back of the neck with a straight edge razor and hot shaving cream which is pretty awesome. Very traditional barber shop.

They're okay if you are cooperative with them. They don't really want to listen to how you want your hair cut. They make too many assumptions and then you get something that's half what you wanted. Don't try to get it corrected, because they will have none of it and try to rush you out of the chair so they don't have to fix it. Maybe that's not the typical experience, but it's how they treated me. Overall, they're not bad and do good work, but they don't listen to how a customer wants his hair cut; also, they tend to give a more "traditional" type of haircut, like a tapered men' cut with a part on the left side. That's great if you're 40+, but if you want something more stylized, go elsewhere. Also, they raised their price from $15 to $20 for a men's standard cut. It's not really worth that, if you ask me.
