Unbelievable. I started by asking what brand they used for gel nails as I am familiar with IBD brand and technique and it is posted publicly on youtube for all to see. THIS WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY! I questioned the tech several times pointing out steps that he was skipping including first NOT using the anti fungal spray. He did not perform a dry manicure to remove cuticle residue from nail bed nor remove the dust from the nail bed. Both steps prevent lifting. He did not use a bonder, he just put the gel on my dusty nail. You are supposed to take care that no gel gets anywhere but the nail bed and are to remove it with a manicure stick prior to curing. He had it everywhere and I had to pick it off of my fingertips and cuticles as he pushed gobs, and I do mean gobs of it against my cuticle. At this point I questioned him about his technique again as there are usually 2 - 3 layers of builder gel applied and we were on the 4th and non of them were shaped, just slopped on. He told me this is how they do it and he will file them afterwards. I informed him that the proper gel manicure does not need to be filed to shape the nail bed portion as it is self leveling and he said "everyone does it different". I wanted to walk out so badly but like an idiot, I stayed because I felt I was to far in and didn't want to get in trouble for "not paying". They looked terrible afterwards as the cuticles were rough from filing and not trimmed nor oiled and there were chunks of gel all around the edges. The next day I noticed, as it snagged on my shirt, that the tip was not adhered to the gel on top of it, probably since he didn't use a bonder!!!! I called the next day and explained that I was upset and wanted them off and a refund. I was told I had to come in and show them to the manager. When I did she denied saying that and told me that she said come in and we could "talk". There was dirt and other foreign particles (like glitter) trapped between the glued on nail tip and the gel layer over it. I explained that this will cause a fungal infection as water and dirt was visibly making its way between the layers and she guaranteed me that it would not get a fungus. She said I was trying to get nails for free and told me to "go to a better salon!" I have never had gel nails separate the tip from the gel layer and the "different" way they do it is WONG! Out 55 bucks and I did take them off as they were doomed to grow fungus not to mention they looked terrible! Upset that I didn't see the other bad review prior to going. I have pictures of the dirt stuck in-between the glued on tip and under the gel that I will be happy to send to anyone, including the NJ division of consumer affairs.
I had a great experience at Nancy Nail Spa. There is a bit of a language barrier, but there were staff on hand to translate. They didn't cut my cuticles at all. I imagine they would if you asked for it, but there's no reason for it. This is the first time I've managed to go more than a day without messing my my nails, let alone two weeks.
Less than one star, the technicians have no clue how to perform manicures. I literally had to stop her from finishing, the final straw was her cutting my dry cuticles to the point of them bleeding. Will never go back again!!
