It's hard to find a hair salon that knows how to cut thick, straight asian hair like mine. Sun cuts fast but is meticulous and really listens to how you want your hair. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that the price could be a few dollars cheaper. But still I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I highly recommend her.
DON'T GO! I had really long hair all the way up to my hip before I went to get my dead ends trimmed. I told her I just want to get rid of my dead ends, I still want to keep my length. I can't believe how short she cut my hair, it barely reaches my shoulder. AND she cut my bangs too short and thick that they stick out like a hedgehog. I have to wear hat everyday to cover my bangs. Like the other review said, I will probably be stuck with this hair for another six months. I want to cry too!!!
I been going to this place for the last few years to get a perm. It is very hard to find someone who knows how to perm asian hair. The last time I was there I recently got my hair cut by someone else. I went to her salon to get another perm since the old one grew out. She told me that my hair needed to be trim since I still had some dead ends left in my hair. I told her that it be ok to cut a few inches off, but keep the same style that I had. She also suggested that I thin out my thick hair and have medium bangs. I told her “ No, I absolutely did not want my hair thin out and I did not like bangs”. I did not see the result of my hair until my perm was completely done. Since she had my back facing the mirror while she cut and rolled my hair for the perm. When I got to see my hair. The only thing I noticed was the heavy thick medium length bangs, and my thin out hair. l was mad! A few days later when I got to wash my hair and fix my hair. I curl my hair like I always did and noticed that after finger combing my hair I looked like a shaggy dog. I cried! I had to go to another salon to have my hair fix. The guy said “she over cut the layers in my hair and had no clue what she was doing”. Although the guy told me that would layer my hair better, he told me that it’s going to take 6 months before my hair is going to layer right. I even told the guy if he had to cut all my hair off to make hair look better, do it. However he told me that if he did that it would have made my hair look worst. So now I am stuck with pony tail for the next 6 months.
This is one of the best kept secrets in Chinatown. Why do we love it? Because Hae Sun puts more love and care into our hair than I've found at a lot of places. She is offbeat in a fun way, and the best part is that it doesn't break my budget. While she is great at Asian hair (a plus for my husband who got horrible haircuts until we found her), she's wonderful with non-Asian hair too. Last time I went, not only did she do my hair, but she also added some romantic curls and styling, just because I'd mentioned in passing I was getting a photo done that evening. No additional charge for it, but I did give her an extra large tip for the help. Plus, her place is just a few doors down from the fabulous Koko Bakery, so you can get your hair done and then stop over at the bakery for some fantastic Asian pastries and bubble tea.
This was a horrible experience. Beyond the worst haircut. I am not exaggerating. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt but this is beyond. I am surprised her business is in existence. My hair is not even, it was cut more short than I asked and my bands are embarassingly too short and uneven.
