Essence Massage & Spa

Word of advice, find another place to get quality massage. I saw Daymara Excel last week for a session. This person lacks everything that has to do with politeness and common courtesy. I spent a full hour to address a typical muscle stretch problem and left feeling nothing but an hour older. She did not seem to care at all of how I left. I called the manager "Carole" few days later to complain and she could not sound less caring. Instead of addressing the less than professional attitude of Daymara and the bad massage work she just replied saying, and I quote, "She is a certified RMT and I can't go to her and tell her how to do her job". I am surprised that this business did not go bankrupt yet. An honest advice, SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE
I really don't know what people are complaining about - I just had a really good massage by Carol, an RMP. I purchased it through Living Social in August 2011 and because of my work schedule I had to reschedule three times and each time they were most accommodating! Due to a motor vehicle accident 3.5 years ago, I've had more than my share of massages from many spas and RMTs. Essence Massage & Spa provided a service equal time many others and Carol was able to work on my tight shoulders and mid-back and get them to release.... now I can relax for the evening!!! Buying the coupon was well worth the drive from Southkeys, I'm just disappointed I can't buy another as I'm no longer a new client. Carmine
Poor office management and scheduling. Not very friendly or considerate to customers.
I also reciently bought a "deal" for $30 for an hour-long massage. I will first off admit that this all started as my fault, but I don't think I deserved what I got. I bought the deal without seeing the fine print that it was for new customers only and I had been to this spa before. But, I booked the appointment with my voucher number I came up in their system immediately, so you would think that the receptionist would warn me right then that my voucher was not valid. But no such warning. Then they called to confirm, again no warning that my voucher was not valid. So I left work early, drove there and was told as soon as I walked through the door that my voucher was not valid. Relaxed, I planned to do what I usually do in a situation where I have made a mistake: Say "Sorry" and Tip BIG. But no such luck. I was told that addition to the $30 I spent on the voucher they would be charging me full price for the massage, bringing the grand total for my one-hour non-RMT massage to over $90. When I said that was crazy and started to leave I was informed that I would still be charged the additional $68 even if I recieved no services since I had not called to cancel 24 hours in advance. I tried to keep my cool in dealing with the lady I was talking to and I eventually asked to talk to a manager, it turns out I was already talking to the owner. The receptionist was trying to calm the owner for the majority of our discussion. I would immagine that the tranquil spa experience was ruined for everyone recieving treatments at the time by the owner telling me how stupid I was (repeatedly) for not reading through all of the fine print. Eventually she offered me to have my massage but just pay the difference between the regular price and the price I had already paid for the voucher. However, at this point I was on the verge of tears and just wanted to leave. I offered to let her keep the money from the voucher and I would just leave without recieving services and she ended up agreeing with me. I ended up crying in my car in the parking lot for about 20 minutes before finally leaving -- and I am not a big crier. I could not believe that the owner of a company would treat someone like this.
I visited this place in April after I'd purchased a teeth whitening treatment via Groupon. The deal included a full one hour session with an I-Brite system, valued at $99. The company claims that one session with an I-Brite system will whiten your teeth between 7-12 shades. No pain, no follow-ups, no x-rays, etc. Wow! The company's website is reasonably professional, so I was expecting much nicer facilities than what I found when I walked into my appointment. The staff was friendly, but very casual. The office was decently decorated, but not fancy or well-organized at all. It was your run-of-the-mill small spa that you'd expect to find on any street corner. Nothing special. I was not impressed, and wished that I'd known this before I had purchased the deal from Groupon. But, I went ahead with the treatment hoping that the results would change my mind. Unfortunately, after an hour of sitting very uncomfortably in a sofa chair alone in a dark room, I was extremely disappointed to learn that the I-Brite treatment had done absolutely nothing to change the color of my teeth at all. This was honestly a complete waste of money, and I don't consider myself difficult to please. I have normal-colored teeth, not super white but not heavily stained either. I was hoping the system would deliver on its promises and brighten my teeth at least a few shades, but there was NO CHANGE. Nada. Zilch. I'm not exaggerating, either. When the treatment was over, the aesthetician tried nervously to convince me in a mirror that my teeth had improved, but when she realized I wasn't buying her story, she finally shrugged and said, "Well, your teeth were pretty white to begin with." My teeth and gums were sore for several hours after the treatment (something they said would NOT happen), and they informed me that I could not drink wine, soda, or coffee for the next 24 hours (something they didn't inform me of going into the treatment). I can't attest to the rest of the services offered at this spa, but I definitely would NOT recommend them to anyone. Based on my experience there, I am mortified at the thought of receiving more dangerous treatments from them, such as Botox, dermabrasion, and permanent makeup. Eek!! Stick with the professionals, people. This place is probably most dependable for simple services, such as massages and nail treatments. I wish I could have my money back. Very, very disappointed.
