Jude's Barbershop
Reviews
Just like any common haircut place, you're gonna get some people in there that aren't as good as the rest. The trick is to find out who's the best. There are two ladies in here that have blown my mind. As for the absolute gem, I don't really want to disclose her name because I don't want her to get busy and not be able to cut my hair so readily. I'm very picky, and I've never been as satisfied EVER than I am with this lovely lady, but she deserves to be busy because she's amazing and if you get her and she does a good job you better tip her well. Ok? Alright her name is Austin and she has given me, by far, the best haircuts I've ever had. For example, the haircut in my picture, that's Austin, killing it as usual. However, before this absolute prodigy cut my hair a lady named Amy was the one I considered to have the golden scissors. She does a bang up job. I'm very sorry I won't be saying who to stay away from, because I like all the ladies that work at this establishment, but another lady that does quite a good job is Hannah. In summary, I gave five stars because there are some freaking crazy amazing stylists at this barbershop. But be forewarned, there are some duds here too. They're pretty though so smile and deal with it because hair grows back, yo.
The rating system that Google offers is limited, so I will caveat that under a custom rating system, I would award this business 2/5 stars for being "fair" quality, but Google says that 1/3 means "Good," which Jude's Barbershop (both here and Westnedge) is not. The first time that I went to Jude's, I had Riann as my barber (she's a real barber). She did a fantastic job, took her time, and was polite and careful. She shaves with a straight-razor, which is great. The next time that I came in, I had a different barber who missed multiple spots, cut quickly, and was overall annoying. So, I returned the next time with a request for Riann, who again did a spectacular job and did so numerous times thereafter. However, Riann has since relocated to Grand Rapids, and I have not had good experiences with any of their cosmetologists. I was also told over the phone that nobody could give me a face shave at either of the locations in the Kalamazoo area because they were not real barbers, so I'd have to pick other, sporadically-scheduled days. I don't care for the decor at Jude's, which is not exactly the epitome of classiness. I don't care for the cosmetologists. I don't care for the prices, which are much higher than other local small barbershops. The only condition that I would recommend Jude's under is if you live in Grand Rapids and can get Riann.
AWSOME CUT. Called ahead got right in unfortunatly had to get out b4 my massage
Only cuts white people's hair
Attempted to get a quick haircut over my lunch break, so I called ahead making an appointment. I show up 5 minutes prior, check-in with the stylist and proceeded to the bathroom. As I exit the bathroom, the same stylist proceeds to check-in and seat a walk-in customer; gives him a 20-minute haircut and explains that he should call ahead to secure appts! WTF..."why did you seat him before me...I had a appt." She quickly defended herself stating "you went to the bathroom and he was ready." I didn't argue any further as I didn't want a crappy haircut. Naturally she charged me full price and glared at me while I entered her tip...NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY. Thanks for wasting my time.
