I first visited this Hair Salon a few months ago and had a very good haircut. I don't remember the hair dressers name, but either way, it was a good. Yesterday I had my hair cut by a woman named Latoya. She was very nice and we had a great conversation. I like to wear my hair in a side part and when the haircut was done it was to short. I should have said something, but I didn't and i'm actually OK with the length now. What I am not OK with is the fact that she cut a BALD spot on the back of my head!!! I remember when she said she was going to thin out my cowlick on the back of my head. She said thin out, not buzz down to less then a quarter inch. I really don't know what she was thinking when she did it, but it looks terrible. I called and let Latoya know that she needs to explain what she is doing before she cuts hair down to 1/4" next to hair that is 1-2". She was very apologetic, but I will not be returning to this salon ever again. They offered me a free haircut and I will never use it. If you want the worst haircut of your life go to this salon and say you are Kyle Zimmerman and you will have the pleasure of the worst free haircut of your life.
This place is fantastic! Nikki did my hair and make-up for my wedding and it was beautiful. I go there regularly now to get my hair cut and she always does a wonderful job. I would highly recommend Modern 3!
I go here all the time and sometimes I wonder why. My haircuts by Kelly and Emily usually turn out pretty good as long as I tell them exactly how I want it. Both of them are also very welcoming and polite. I've tried to get my hair done by others but they all did a pretty banged up job. It's as though they have no idea how to deal with different hair types and face shapes. Also, a few times they over-charged me and when I questioned the amount, they failed to justify. I had short hair for a while and it only took them like 10 minutes to trim my hair but they charged me the highest amount for a cut anyway ($35) which is pathetic because it's been 2 years since my first cut there and I've gone for a total change in haircut a few months back which took about 30 minutes and it cost the same. I thought if they could see me as a regular they wouldn't do that to me but I guess I was wrong. In another case, I went in with a $10 coupon they emailed me but when I tried to use it they said it's only for 1st timers only. That was pretty ridiculous, since the only reason they have my email is because I wrote it down when I went for a haircut the first time. Bad service, ok haircuts, but Kalamazoo is small and there aren't many reasonably priced salons out there so what's a college student to do? Modern 3, I'm a regular customer so PLEASE do something about your salon!
At other quality salons I have been to, it normally takes stylists an hour to cut my hair, with wash and dry. At Modern 3, my stylist did my wash, cut and dry in only 20 minutes. I didn't feel that she was a a good stylist. I am not happy with my cut. I went to pay and she said the total was $36, $1 more than is stated on their website for the maximum price of a hair cut. I don't understand how she decided on that price. Overall, I felt that I wasn't treated like a special customer - just a quick job. I won't be going back.
I just went to Modern 3 about four days ago. I saw Nikki who is amazing. She explained everything she was doing and how to do my hair at home to make it look 'salon fresh' so to say - I can totally do the style which is a huge plus! The atmosphere is kind of funky/fresh, perfect for a campus salon. She showed me some new products that I am totally going to get at my next visit. She wasn't pushy at all about products which I really liked. A great experience!
