Studio Orlo
Reviews
I had a wedding up in Schenectady this weekend and I needed a salon. I orginally made an appt with a different salon but had to cancel due to lack of time. I found Studio Orlo wasn't to far from where I was staying so I figured I would make my appt here. The staff was great, they were so nice and helpful. However my hair came out terrible. It was such a simple task, to curl and put extensions in my hair. I was shocked when it came out as bad as it did. When I started to realize that it was looking terrible I asked my stylist, who never told me her name, to pin it to one side. She did so by putting it in a little pony tail which was not what I asked for. All in all, it was sloppy, messy, all over the place and the curls were falling out by the time I got in the car. It was so bad to the point where I was embarrassed to be seen in public. I had to do my hair all over again myself with less than an hour till the wedding. AND way to expensive for the easy style I asked for.
I started going to the Orlo salon in November 2011. I've lived here since 2006 and have been to at least 4 different stylists over the years. I like to change my look alot and found that stylists I was seeing wanted me to stay safe, with medium to long hair and light layers. But I needed CHANGE! I called Orlo and made an appt with an unknown stylist (something I never do but I was just so desperate and figured why not). I went there for the first time and was warmly greeted by the receptionist. She offered some of the most delicious tea (Aveda brand) while I waited for my stylist. I met Amy and we talked about different colors and styles and I stated I wanted to go shorter and a little "funky" but was scared to cut too much since I have curly hair. Amy suggested a modified angle bob (not as sharp as a regular angled bob). Instead of all over color and highlights, she suggested a toned highlight (my hair is REALLY dark brown). I usually do a deep side part and was surprised when one of the stylists suggested vertical highlights rather than horizontal ones. The color and cut came out perfect! The vertical highlights worked well with the deep part (and didn't give me that stripey highlight look). I went back 5 weeks later to cut a little more (more funk!) and do a tone touch-up. I couldn't have been happier. My husband, who's usually a fan of long hair, complimented me as soon as I walked in the door. Amy had perfectly framed my face and the color (red highlights) really popped! Plus I received compliments for a full 4 weeks after getting the cut. Finally! A Capital Region stylist who gets me and my hair!!!
