Lakeshore Athletic Club - Flatiron

Reviews

The place has been around about 12 years now. I was a charter member, before it opened, and have been a member off and on over the time the club has existed. I want the place to succeed because companies struggle in this area: restaurants close, stores move away, etc. But Lakeshore feels moribund: the cafe is gutted (and left open to view, adding to the feeling), and the place is often empty even at its busiest times. It's very expensive, and has strong competition from places like Louisville Rec and Arvada's amazing Apex facility 10 minutes away. There are three pools: 1 outside (in season only, of course) that's more of a play facility, and two indoors: 1 very warm pool mostly for kids, and 1 normal lap pool that is kept too cold for my tastes (and as a result, I believe, almost never has anyone in it). There is a rock wall that gets a lot of use (good for them!) and the usual array of aerobic machines, etc. There is also a Kidshore facility that helped my two kids grow up and have fun. On the downside, they are very often closed when I am not working: they close on most holidays and are the first to close in bad weather, even when everything else around them is open. This is, of course, immensely frustrating.

This club is generally kept clean and has a friendly staff. For the price, which is pretty steep, there are a lot of broken treadmills. There are also frequent silly things such as not having any water. A club this expensive should schedule maintenance items like replacing water heaters during off hours.

My family has been a member of this club for close to 5 years. We are here because it is close and convenient, that being said, if there were close alternatives, we would most likely go with one. My wife and I were talking when we came across this and we have to agree with some of the other reviews that we have read here. The club is a bit overpriced for what you get. The facilities are nice, but the STAFF IS SUB PAR!. The front desk is often times clueless when asked simple questions about classes, events, and so on. The younger staff seem more concerned with socializing with each other than helping guests. Try making a phone call to this place and getting a hold of any staff, good luck!. When you pay a premium to be a member of a club, you typically get premium service. Not the case here. The service we have gotten has been borderline RUDE at times. Sometimes you walk in the door to check in and you feel like your interrupting them. Thinking about getting a personal trainer?? A lot of the trainers should be ashamed of themselves taking upwards of $50, $60, $70, $?? for personal training and these poor guys paying out the money are getting chat / gossip buddies instead of more fit. If you get personal training, research the trainers, there are a couple decent ones that know their stuff and take their job seriously, but there are also some that are a waste of time. Our kids went to the camp they had which was overall ok. Again it came at a premium price, and what did you get. Staff focused on gossiping and flirting with each other instead of playing with kids. Staff that came late often times. We get it, we were in high school and college at one point, you have other things on your mind. Its good that we paid a premium for this though. Its also good that they had a "special day of rest" that they gave the camp counselors in the middle of camp because their job with the kids was so stressful and draining. Stressful huh?,.. wonder how the brave young men and women serving our country in the military right now would feel about that one. Other than that, the gym is typical, people are a bit cliquey. You have to understand its in a well to do area, so a lot of the people feel like they are special. You'll often see that there are people that are more into hanging out and socializing than working out. Telling stories of money, and how great life is, and how they are gonna dominate the world. Then there are the wannabes that will come in with a bottle of whatever, fill it with water and shake shake shake it over and over again then go look in the mirror and admire themselves. Look around and see if anyone is checking them out. You've got the guys that come in and do one set of 8 on a machine and immediately move onto another machine to do another set of 8, then onto another and another and another. They take up 6 machines at once,.. is that possible? Yes, apparently it is, because it happens here all the time. Maybe the trainers can do something positive and give some advice on gym etiquette and what works and doesn't. Its Irritating, but typical gym stuff. So thats our 2 cents, hope it helps.

I've been involved with Lakeshore for 8 years. There is something for everyone in my family from a great kidshore to open gym time, yoga, TRX, cafe.

I agree with the review below. They are overpriced and the staff does not seem to concerned with the guests. We go mainly because the kids like the pool in the summer, but more and more we are thinking the local rec centers would be a better alternative.
