Regency Beauty Institute - Aurora-Naperville

I have been going to Regency at this location for about 3 years. I have had numerous students there do my hair as well as that of my 12 year old daughter whose hair is not relaxed (quite a challenge). Also, we are there about every two weeks for a wash and style. The price is amazing, and the teaching staff will work with you if you communication that are concerned about anything. It is a fantastic community, but they are students (that's why its $9 - not including tip) and you shouldnt expect perfection. In short, about 90% of the 200 times my daughter and I have been there, we were overwhelmings satisfied. The others times, I felt the compromise (the teacher's intervention) was reasonable and helpful. Many times you can request the same student again and again if you like their work. Its both wonderful and sad to see them graduate after months of working on your hair. Highly recommended. Finally, PLEASE remember that these are students. TIP them if you feel they did a good job. Don't be cheap. You are already saving 20 -30 bucks on your hair... lol. Enjoy.
I visited Regency on 7/23/10 for a full foil highlight touch-up and a cut. Alyssa W worked on me and I told her I wanted very tiny, natural highlights. She had difficulty with my hair because it is very fine. My main complaints are that she pulled too large of sections, which resulted in chunky highlights, and she did not paint to highlight close enough to my roots, which resulted about a half inch of roots, AFTER the highlights were finished! I have a feeling she has not done many highlights, and her instructor only checked (briefly) on Alyssa twice in the two hours she was working on me. A beginning student should have more supervisor and instruction than that. However, to give her credit, Alyssa did do a good job of matching the new highlights to the old. I am very happy with the cut Alyssa gave me. She listened to exactly what I wanted and gave me great longer layers without taking away too much length. However, when she was blow-drying my hair it was clear that she is inexperienced with fine hair because she did not lift the hair at all to add volume. I ddin't even realize how good the cut was until I washed and dryed it myself the next day. Going to Regency for a cut is a safe bet, but I would not go for highlights ever again.
